Great! We can work with your printer! Let your printer know that our screw post bindings hide 3/4″ of the page’s width in the binding and to plan your image area based on that. So if your image area is 11h x 14w” your page’s final trim should be 11h x 14 3/4″w. We will send your printer a page template for punching holes in your pages to prep them for the screw post binding. If you are working with sleeves you will need to send us one so we can plot the holes in your binding to match your sleeves. Also tell your printer we recommend 2 scores in each page, one at 7/8″ and one at 1″ from the spine. These scores help to maximize the ease with which your pages turn and lay flat in your portfolio.
Printing on your own?
Here are some helpful tips:
The final trim of your page: When considering your final paper trim, take into account your art board (e.g. 11h x 14w landscape) and add an extra 3/4″ on the left side of the page, which would make your final trim for an 11 x 14 landscape image, 11″h x 14 3/4″w. This extra 3/4″ on the left side of the page is where the holes are punched for the post binding and is hidden in the binding.
– if printing full-bleeds it’s recommended to print on larger format paper, and when building your files to extend your bleeds 1/8″ on all bled sides beyond your crops. For example, if you’re printing 11h x 14w full-bleed images, we suggest printing on 13 x 19 paper, and extending your bleeds on the top, bottom, fore edge and into the gutter 1/8″.
